Summary

This bill authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to allow electrical utilities to cut and remove trees or other vegetation near power lines on National Forest System land without requiring a separate timber sale, under certain conditions. It also addresses the use of proceeds from any sale of the removed material.

Sec. 2, Permits and agreements with electrical utilities: The Secretary of Agriculture may include permission in special use permits or easements for electrical utilities to cut and remove trees or vegetation near distribution or transmission lines without a separate timber sale, provided this is consistent with the applicable land and resource management plan and other environmental laws. If the utility sells any of the removed material, it must give the proceeds to the Secretary, minus transportation costs. However, the bill does not require the utility to sell any of the removed material.
