Russia, Ukraine agree ceasefire in Oleshky, peace talks next month

What happened

A localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine took effect in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky, brokered by First Lady Melania Trump, to allow aid deliveries and civilian evacuations. Russia and Ukraine have also agreed to hold peace talks next month. However, Russian missile strikes on Kharkiv killed two and injured four, and reports differ on Starlink stability: Ukraine says Starlink is 'now stable' but also notes limits continue to affect its forces.

What it means for markets

The ceasefire and planned peace talks could reduce geopolitical risk premiums, weighing on defense stocks (ITA) if a ceasefire appears closer. However, continued Russian strikes and unresolved Starlink restrictions keep uncertainty high.
