- Trial Phase
- Phase 3 (terminated)
- Time to Market
- Unknown — the drug is effectively sidelined with no active registrational trials. Repositioning for atherosclerosis is at early/preclinical stage with no Phase 2 enrollment started. No path to market visible within 5+ years if at all.
- Why 2/10
- Sabizabulin has no scheduled hard, dated catalyst in the next ~12 months. The Phase 3 VERACITY prostate cancer trial was terminated, the COVID-19 EUA was rejected, and the drug has been sidelined due to funding while Veru pivots to its lead asset enobosarm. The proposed atherosclerosis program is at a preclinical/Phase 2 planning stage with no trial enrollment initiated.
Sabizabulin is no longer a meaningful near-term value driver for VERU. The company's valuation now rests almost entirely on the enobosarm program (Phase 2b PLATEAU trial in obesity, interim data expected Q1 2027). Investors should not trade VERU based on sabizabulin expectations.

Executive Summary
Sabizabulin is an oral tubulin inhibitor that Veru Inc. originally developed for prostate cancer and then pivoted to COVID-19. After showing a striking 55% mortality reduction in a Phase 3 COVID trial, an FDA advisory committee voted 8-5 against emergency authorization in Nov 2022, effectively killing that program. The prostate cancer Phase 3 (VERACITY) was subsequently terminated. As of mid-2026, Veru has largely shelved sabizabulin, pivoted to cardiometabolic diseases, and is now exploring the drug as a preclinical anti-inflammatory agent for atherosclerosis. The company's valuation is now driven entirely by enobosarm. Sabizabulin has no near-term catalysts and is not investable as a standalone thesis.
How It Works
Sabizabulin is an oral small molecule that disrupts microtubules — the tiny structural "highways" inside cells that transport materials. By gumming up these highways, it can kill rapidly dividing cells (cancer), block viruses from hijacking cells (COVID-19), and tamp down inflammation. It works differently from standard chemo drugs like taxanes.
Trial Status
The Phase 3 VERACITY trial (NCT04844749) for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer was terminated in early 2024 for administrative reasons. The COVID-19 program failed to secure FDA EUA after an 8-5 advisory committee vote against it in Nov 2022, and a planned confirmatory Phase 3 never materialized. The drug is now being explored preclinically for atherosclerosis, with a Phase 2 study proposed but not yet enrolling.
The Two-Sided Case
Upcoming Catalysts
- No hard catalysts scheduled for sabizabulin in the next 12 months.
- Veru's enobosarm Phase 2b PLATEAU trial (obesity + GLP-1) interim analysis expected Q1 2027 — this is the company's real catalyst, not sabizabulin.
