- Why 4/10
- RECELL is already FDA-approved and commercially generating revenue — there is no pending PDUFA, pivotal readout, or regulatory binary for this drug in the next 12 months. The next hard catalyst is Q3 2026 earnings on November 5, 2026 (commercial adoption and profitability progress), which is a growth/commercial catalyst, not a drug-approval binary. Per the rubric, an approved marketed drug with no pending regulatory decision scores 3-5.
RECELL is a commercial-stage product driving AVITA's turnaround story, but the stock has already priced in significant optimism with a ~380% YTD rally. Watch the Q3 2026 earnings (Nov 5) for revenue trajectory and cash flow milestones. The elevated short interest (~9.3% of shares, 9.2 days to cover) could fuel a squeeze on positive news, but the overbought technicals and price above mean analyst target suggest near-term risk.

Executive Summary
AVITA Medical (RCEL) commercializes RECELL, a FDA-approved autologous spray-on skin device for burns and vitiligo. RECELL is the company's lead product and primary revenue driver, with the automated RECELL GO system now rolling out. The company delivered record Q2 2026 revenue, raised FY 2026 guidance to $86-89M, and expects Q4 2026 cash flow breakeven. The stock has rallied ~380% from its 52-week low ($3.22 to $15.51), driven by strong commercial execution, analyst upgrades, heavy insider buying in June 2026, and institutional accumulation from active managers. However, the rally has pushed the stock above the mean analyst target ($13.58), RSI is overbought at 78.81, and shorts remain elevated at ~9.3% of shares outstanding with 9.2 days to cover.
How It Works
RECELL is a medical device that creates a spray-on suspension of a patient's own skin cells (autologous) from a small skin sample. A thin piece of the patient's healthy skin is harvested, processed in the device, and the resulting cell suspension is sprayed onto the wound or burn area. This allows a small donor site to cover a much larger wound area (up to 80:1 expansion ratio), speeding healing and reducing pain and scarring compared to traditional skin grafting.
Trial Status
RECELL received FDA Pre-Market Approval (PMA) in September 2018 for acute thermal burns in adults. Indication was expanded in 2021 for vitiligo (repigmentation). The next-gen RECELL GO (automated preparation system) is now clinically available in the UK and US. The company is also developing adjacent products: Cohealyx (collagen-based dermal matrix, positive interim study data April 2026) and PermeaDerm.
