- Trial Phase
- Phase 2/3
- Time to Market
- At least 3-5 years (Phase 3 just launching; no BLA/NDA filed)
- Why 5/10
- There is no single PDUFA or binary topline-readout date within ~12 months; the next hard catalyst is the initiation of the registration-enabling Phase 3 trial in 1L metastatic pancreatic cancer (expected H1 2026), which is a milestone but not a binary efficacy/safety readout. Pelareorep is Oncolytics' only asset, so any progress moves the stock, but with no near-term binary event the impactScore is capped at 5.
Oncolytics is a single-asset clinical-stage biotech with no approved products. The stock trades at ~$0.92 against a mean analyst price target of ~$4.94 (~5x upside), but the company has limited cash (~$12.4M as of Q3 2025) and has tapped a $75M ATM facility — significant dilution risk. Watch for the Phase 3 pancreatic cancer trial launch (H1 2026) and any anal cancer registration updates, but do not expect a near-term binary catalyst.

Executive Summary
Pelareorep is Oncolytics Biotech's sole asset — a first-in-class oncolytic reovirus being developed as an intravenous immunotherapy for multiple hard-to-treat cancers. Phase 2 data have shown promising survival signals: near-doubling of median OS in HR+/HER2- breast cancer (21 vs 10.8 months), a 62% ORR in 1L pancreatic cancer (vs ~25% historical), and durable responses in 3rd-line anal cancer where no FDA-approved therapies exist. The FDA has granted Fast Track designations for pancreatic and colorectal cancer, and the company has secured agency alignment on pivotal study designs for both pancreatic and anal cancer. However, pelareorep has not yet entered a pivotal Phase 3 study (trial launch expected H1 2026), and Oncolytics has limited cash (~$12.4M as of Q3 2025), creating dilution risk via a recently announced $75M ATM facility. The stock trades near $0.92 with a ~$105M market cap.
How It Works
Pelareorep is a live, unmodified reovirus (a common human virus that doesn't cause disease) delivered intravenously. It preferentially infects and kills cancer cells while leaving healthy cells largely alone. When cancer cells die, the virus also triggers the patient's immune system to recognize and attack the tumor — turning immunologically "cold" tumors into "hot" ones that respond better to checkpoint inhibitors and chemotherapy.
Trial Status
Multiple randomized Phase 2 trials completed (BRACELET-1 in breast cancer, GOBLET in GI cancers). FDA alignment secured for a pivotal Phase 3 study in 1L metastatic pancreatic cancer (launching H1 2026) and a pivotal anal cancer study (aligned April 2026). Breast cancer program is Phase 3-ready but not yet launched. The drug is still investigational — no approval anywhere.
The Two-Sided Case
Upcoming Catalysts
- Initiation of the registration-enabling Phase 3 trial in 1L metastatic pancreatic cancer (expected H1 2026, per Nov 2025 FDA alignment announcement).
- Potential launch of the pivotal anal cancer study following FDA alignment (April 27, 2026).
- Updated data from ongoing GOBLET study cohorts (pancreatic and colorectal).
- Advancement of HR+/HER2- breast cancer program toward a registrational study.
- Potential partnership or licensing deals to fund development.
