- Trial Phase
- Approved / marketed
- Time to Market
- Already commercialized — approved and selling in China as ELUNATE, and ex-US as FRUZAQLA (approved/launched in 41 countries per H1 2026 results).
- Why 4/10
- No hard, dated binary for ELUNATE/fruquintinib in the next ~12 months: the most recent one (NMPA approval in China for 2nd-line renal cell carcinoma, announced May 21, 2026) has already passed, and the company's next dated binaries (SAFFRON/SANOVO Phase 3 readouts in H2 2026) belong to savolitinib, a different drug — so the score stays at 4 (approved & commercializing with no pending regulatory decision, one of several HUTCHMED programs).
For HCM investors, ELUNATE is a maturing growth product (in-market sales +41% to $60.8M in H1 2026) whose main watch-item is whether the new RCC indication gains NRDL reimbursement and accelerates China uptake; the share-price-moving binaries in the next ~6 months (savolitinib SAFFRON/SANOVO readouts, sovleplenib NDA decisions) are other drugs, so don't buy HCM expecting an ELUNATE-specific catalyst.

Executive Summary
ELUNATE is HUTCHMED (HCM)'s China brand name for fruquintinib (development code HMPL-013), an oral VEGFR-inhibitor already marketed in China and, under the brand FRUZAQLA, in 41 countries ex-US. China's NMPA approved it in combination with sintilimab for 2nd-line advanced/metastatic renal cell carcinoma in May 2026 (FRUSICA-2: 63% risk reduction, mPFS 22.2 vs 6.9 months), and H1 2026 results show ELUNATE in-market sales up 41% to $60.8M — the company's largest marketed China product. It is a mature commercial asset with no scheduled binary catalyst of its own in the next 12 months; the next company-level catalysts are for other drugs.
How It Works
Fruquintinib is a small-molecule drug taken by mouth that blocks VEGFR — a family of receptors tumors use to grow new blood vessels. Cutting off that blood supply starves the tumor of oxygen and nutrients, slowing its growth.
Trial Status
Approved and marketed. In China, NMPA approved ELUNATE (fruquintinib) + TYVYT (sintilimab) for 2nd-line advanced/metastatic renal cell carcinoma on May 21, 2026, based on the FRUSICA-2 registration study (63% reduction in risk of disease progression or death; median PFS 22.2 months vs 6.9 months control). The HUTCHMED-sponsored fruquintinib ± sintilimab Phase 1b/2 program (NCT03903705, 348 patients) is completed, with published cohorts in endometrial cancer (Nat Commun 2025), RCC (Target Oncol 2025) and mCRC (Eur J Cancer 2023). No HUTCHMED-led Phase 3 readout for this molecule is scheduled in the locally ingested trial data.
The Two-Sided Case
Upcoming Catalysts
- Potential NRDL (reimbursement) listing decision for the newly approved RCC indication in China — no date in local data.
- Any further label-expansion or combo readouts from the fruquintinib + sintilimab program (endometrial cancer cohort data published Dec 2025).
- Company-level (different drugs): savolitinib SAFFRON (global) and SANOVO (China) Phase 3 topline readouts expected H2 2026; sovleplenib NDA decisions under priority review for ITP and wAIHA in China.
- HUTCHMED interim/quarterly results tracking ELUNATE and FRUZAQLA ex-US sales growth.
