- Trial Phase
- Phase 1
- Time to Market
- Unknown — Phase 1 complete, Phase 2 not yet started. Best case: Phase 2 initiation in 2027, approval likely 4-6+ years away if successful.
- Why 4/10
- AX-0810 already delivered positive Phase 1 target engagement data (June 25, 2026). The next catalysts are full Phase 1 data at a conference (H2 2026, non-binary) and Phase 2 initiation in biliary atresia (likely 2027, no set date). No hard binary catalyst in the next ~12 months, capping impact at moderate.
AX-0810's Phase 1 data are out and positive, but the stock has already re-rated. The next meaningful binary won't come until Phase 2 patient data — likely 12-18 months away. Watch for: (1) full Phase 1 dataset at a medical conference later in 2026 for deeper safety/PD read, and (2) Phase 2 trial initiation update in biliary atresia. The ~33% short ratio adds squeeze potential on positive updates, but the ~$59M June 2026 offering diluted existing holders.

Executive Summary
AX-0810 is ProQR Therapeutics' lead RNA editing candidate and the first clinical asset from its proprietary Axiomer™ platform. It targets NTCP to treat cholestatic liver diseases like biliary atresia (BA) and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Phase 1 data announced June 25, 2026, showed the platform works in humans for the first time — with dose-dependent target engagement, ~8-fold bile acid increases, and no safety signals. However, the stock is down significantly from its 52-week high ($3.10) and recently underwent a $59.2M dilutive equity offering. The company holds ~€81M cash and has a strong analyst consensus, but the next Phase 2 catalyst is 12+ months away.
How It Works
AX-0810 is an RNA editing medicine — a type of genetic therapy that works at the RNA level rather than the DNA level. It is designed to edit a specific letter in the RNA of liver cells to introduce a naturally occurring genetic variation that reduces the activity of a protein called NTCP. NTCP normally recycles bile acids back into the liver; by reducing its function, AX-0810 helps clear toxic bile acids from the liver. This could slow or stop liver damage in cholestatic diseases where bile flow is blocked.
Trial Status
Phase 1 multiple-ascending-dose study in healthy volunteers (up to 33 participants, 24 active / 9 placebo) is largely complete. Positive dose-dependent target engagement data were reported June 25, 2026, showing up to 8-fold bile acid increase at 6 mg/kg and a favorable safety profile with ~8-week half-life. Participants continue through the 12-week follow-up. Full data expected at a medical conference in H2 2026. Phase 2 in biliary atresia is the planned next step.
The Two-Sided Case
Upcoming Catalysts
- Full Phase 1 data presentation at a medical/scientific conference (H2 2026)
- Clinical trial application (CTA) for AX-0811, next-gen NTCP editing candidate (mid-2026)
- Phase 2 trial initiation in biliary atresia (indication selected, timeline TBD)
- Clinical data readouts from other Axiomer pipeline programs (guidance: through 2027)
