Summary

This bill amends the Fair Credit Reporting Act to prohibit the inclusion of medical debt on consumer reports and restricts creditors from using medical debt information in credit decisions. Sec. 2, Amendments to Fair Credit Reporting Act: This section defines 'medical debt' as debt from medical services, products, or devices, and amends the Act to exclude any adverse information related to medical debt from consumer reports, while allowing consumer reporting agencies to still collect such information. It also makes technical changes to remove references to medical information in other sections. Sec. 3, Modification of Regulations Relating to Prohibitions on Use of Medical Debt Information: Within one year of enactment, the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection must amend regulations to prohibit creditors from obtaining or using a consumer's medical debt information when deciding whether to extend credit.
