Summary

This bill amends the Social Security Act to provide Medicare coverage for blood-based dementia screening tests. It adds a new category of covered tests under Medicare Part B for early detection of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Sec. 2, Medicare coverage of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias early detection screening tests: The bill adds a new definition to the Social Security Act for "Alzheimer's disease and related dementias early detection screening tests." These are tests furnished to an individual on or after January 1, 2028, for detecting pre-symptomatic and early stages of Alzheimer's or related dementias. The test must be cleared, classified, or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It must be a genomic sequencing blood or blood product test, or another equivalent test (including single-analyte test, blood test analysis of cell-free nucleic acids, multiplex panel test, whole genome sequencing, protein expression, whole exome, whole transcriptome, and medical imaging based on blood, blood products, tissue, urine or other biospecimen) as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to provide comparable results. The bill also amends payment provisions under Medicare Part B to include these screening tests.
