Summary

This bill amends the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 to exclude certain equipment or devices that reprocess spent nuclear fuel without separating plutonium from other transuranic elements from the definition of a "production facility."

Sec. 2, Exclusion from definition of production facility: The bill modifies the definition of "production facility" in Section 11 v. of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. Currently, the definition includes equipment that separates uranium isotopes or enriches uranium in isotope 235. The amendment adds a new category: equipment or devices that reprocess spent nuclear fuel in a manner that does not separate plutonium from other transuranic elements are also excluded from the definition.
