This bill requires the Federal Railroad Administration to study the feasibility of electrifying rail lines across the United States. Sec. 2, Study on rail electrification: The Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration, through the Associate Administrator of the Office of Research, Data, and Innovation, must conduct a study on the feasibility of rail electrification along passenger and freight corridors. The study must identify all existing and planned rail corridors, how each rail system is powered, whether it is a Class I, II, or III railroad, any corridor segments where electrification may be feasible, and any segments where clean rail technologies could be adopted. The Administrator must consult with railroad owners and operators, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, and other relevant entities. The study must use existing agency resources to minimize costs. An initial progress report is due to Congress within one year of enactment, and a final report with the study's results is due one year after that.
