Summary

This bill requires the Federal Railroad Administration to study how to improve rail performance and integrate new rail power technologies in the southeastern United States. Sec. 2, Study on improving rail and integration of new rail power technologies: The Administrator, through the Associate Administrator of the Office of Research, Data, and Innovation, must conduct a study. The study must identify segments of a rail corridor between Florida and Washington, DC suitable for technologies like rail electrification, fuel cells, or batteries, and identify challenges to implementing them. For any segment where such technologies cannot be implemented, the study must explain why and recommend updates to make it suitable, with estimated costs. A report to Congress is due within 18 months of the bill's enactment.
