This bill amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to allow the Secretary of Health and Human Services to share food safety information with state, local, tribal, and territorial authorities, and extends the duration of certain food safety grants. Sec. 2, Sharing food safety information: The Secretary may share unredacted information from the Food and Drug Administration with state, local, tribal, or territorial authorities that have public health functions, including foodborne illness surveillance data, lab testing, inspection results, recall distribution lists, consumer complaints, and other information to help protect the public. This information can be shared as soon as reasonably practicable. Recipient authorities cannot further disclose the information without FDA permission, unless needed to contain an outbreak, carry out a recall, or for other state enforcement activities. This does not affect the Secretary's ability to enter into other written agreements to share confidential information. Sec. 3, Grants to enhance food safety: The bill extends the duration of grants under section 1009 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act from 3 years to 5 years. It also changes the program evaluation requirement so that funding in subsequent years depends on a successful evaluation after the first year. These changes apply only to grants awarded on or after the bill's enactment date.
