Summary

This bill amends the Public Health Service Act to reauthorize a sickle cell disease prevention and treatment demonstration program. It updates the program's focus and funding.

Sec. 2, Sickle cell disease treatment prevention and treatment: This section makes several changes to the existing program. It shifts the program's focus from 'prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease' to 'treatment of sickle cell disease and the prevention and treatment of complications of sickle cell disease.' It also expands the ways the Secretary can work with entities, from only entering into a contract to also making a grant or entering into a cooperative agreement. Finally, it reauthorizes funding at $8,205,000 for each of fiscal years 2025 through 2029, replacing the previous authorization of $4,455,000 for fiscal years 2019 through 2023.
