Summary

This bill amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to increase the charitable mileage rate for volunteer drivers to match the business travel rate. Sec. 2, Increase in charitable mileage rate: The bill changes the standard charitable mileage deduction rate from a flat 14 cents per mile to a two-tier system. For most charitable driving, the rate remains 14 cents per mile. However, when a volunteer drives to transport other people or property on behalf of a qualified charitable organization, the rate must be at least equal to the standard business mileage rate set by the Secretary for business travel deductions under sections 162 and 212 of the tax code. This change applies to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2024.
