Summary

This bill amends the Social Security Act to help patients get certain pediatric medical devices. It creates a process for manufacturers to request that Medicare set payment rates for these devices under the physician fee schedule.

Sec. 2, Facilitating access to pediatric technologies: Starting January 1, 2026, if a manufacturer asks, the Secretary of Health and Human Services must set national relative value units (payment rates) for a qualifying pediatric technology under the Medicare physician fee schedule, if no such rates exist yet. The Secretary will set these rates using available data like contractor pricing, claims, or time studies. Manufacturers must submit a written request by May 1 of a given year for the rates to be set in that year's rulemaking; requests after May 1 are handled the following year. The request must include information to verify the technology qualifies and to help set the rates. A qualifying pediatric technology is a medical device covered by Medicare, approved by the FDA, with a temporary HCPCS code for emerging technologies, and either used mainly in procedures on pediatric patients or specifically designed for safe use in children. This section does not require Medicare to cover the device or change existing coverage rules.
