This bill requires the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to temporarily exempt buprenorphine products approved for treating opioid use disorder from the Suspicious Orders Report System (SORS) until 270 days after the opioid public health emergency declared in 2017 expires. It also requires a report and recommendation on whether the exemption should become permanent.
Sec. 2, Removal of buprenorphine products from SORS during opioid public health emergency: The DEA Administrator must temporarily exempt any buprenorphine product approved for opioid use disorder treatment from the SORS system, including its reporting requirements, until 270 days after the opioid public health emergency expires. Within 90 days after that emergency ends, the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services must conduct a comprehensive report on whether the temporary exemption increased patient access to buprenorphine treatment, and make a recommendation to the White House and Congress on whether buprenorphine should remain exempt from SORS and related reporting requirements after the emergency expires.
