Summary

This bill directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to report on expanding the use of certain automation tools within the Department of Veterans Affairs for processing claims.

Sec. 2, Plan to expand use of automation tools: Within 180 days of enactment and twice yearly after that, the Secretary must submit a plan to the Senate and House Veterans' Affairs Committees to make automation tools available to other Department subdivisions for processing claims. The tools are technologies developed for the Compensation Service that automate retrieving service or health records, compile evidence for benefit claims, provide automated decision support, automate information sharing between federal agencies, or help generate correspondence about a claim. The plan must analyze the feasibility and benefits of using these tools, any needed modifications, requirements that cannot be addressed, collaboration needs between technology offices, and a timeline for modifying and implementing the tools. The Secretary must give priority to the Pension and Fiduciary Service, Education Service, program offices of the Veterans Benefits Administration, the Debt Management Center, and the Board of Veterans' Appeals.
