Summary

This bill requires the Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to establish a task force within the agency to coordinate activities related to the safety and security of artificial intelligence (AI).

Sec. 2, Task Force on Securing Artificial Intelligence: Within one year of enactment, the CISA Director must create a Task Force with personnel from across the agency. The Task Force will coordinate execution of directives under Executive Order 14110 or a subsequent order, future agency AI safety and security activities, and contributions to Department-wide AI initiatives. Its duties include ensuring coordination of agency efforts for safe AI design and deployment; coordinating agency input into interagency and nongovernment AI working groups; assessing agency safety initiatives for AI challenges; leveraging agency expertise to use AI against cyber threats; advising stakeholders on cyber risks from AI software; identifying AI workforce gaps; promoting secure AI software adoption; recommending new agency initiatives; ensuring AI efforts meet privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties standards; and supporting publication of the agency's AI use inventory. The Task Force must provide biannual briefings to House and Senate homeland security committees, starting six months after its establishment. The Act sunsets five years after enactment.
