Summary

This bill extends the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver program, which allows hospitals to provide inpatient-level care in patients' homes, by changing the expiration date from 2024 to 2029. It also requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct two studies and submit two reports on the program.

Sec. 2, Extending acute hospital care at home waiver flexibilities: The bill amends the Social Security Act to extend the waiver program until 2029. It requires the Secretary to conduct a first study by September 30, 2024, and a second study by September 30, 2028, on the program. The second study must compare quality of care, outcomes, costs, and other metrics between patients who entered the program directly from an emergency department versus those who entered from an existing inpatient hospital stay. The Secretary must submit a first report by September 30, 2024, on the first study, and a second report by September 30, 2028, on the second study.
